Pain will Follow

Pain will follow
I step forward into the days after tomorrow
And must realize
That pain will follow

I will watch my parents wither away
Until nothing is left but inevitable tears
Nothing is left but lonely rooms
Where memories dance
In the light of the sun

All my life, I would never imagine
Never dared to imagine
The absence of these beautiful souls
The ones who brought me to be the man I am
The ones who made me the boy I was

How their aromas will haunt me
Unleashing memories by the millions
Fluttering through me in swarms
Each wing a shard of glass
To remind me of the promises I couldn’t keep

But they are here now
Love is here
Their hands are here
To hold me aloft

But I know…
Nothing can prepare me
For the pain
Make no mistake
Pain will follow.

You usually draw a very thin line between darkness and light in your poems and this poem for me fades that line a bit.

Indeed, my friend, there is no line. This poem is on the mourning of future loss of present love. they are but one and the same.

IMHO, this is the best of the new stuff you have put up. I especially found the metaphorical transitions in the fourth verse unusual and interesting. And the way the piece drags one through a gamut of responses, like a sinusoidal wave - back to the trough... good stuff.

Sad but true. The pain as inevitable as death itself.

Am curious to know how and what made you write this.

People tend to either ignore and run away from such feelings, or become absolutely hopeless. Here, I neither see escapism nor absolute hopelessness.

Impressive.

It was a realization so powerful, i had to write it down. It is so inevitable and we all ignore it until its too late.

Thank you very much for your comment. Do keep checking back and reading my stuff. It's brilliant when i get comments from readers i don't even know :)
